About Pax Ressler

Pax Ressler (they/them) is a Philadelphia-based artist, working at the intersection of theatre and music, as well as the intersection of arts and advocacy. They work as a creator, performer, music director, composer, designer and educator at Philadelphia Theatre companies, including Arden Theatre Company, Bearded Ladies Cabaret, Nicole Canuso Dance Company, Orbiter 3, Shakespeare in Clark Park, Theatre Horizon, Wilma Theater, 11th Hour Theatre Company, 1812 Productions, and more. “Change,” an album of queer and trans* love songs, is now available on Bandcamp.

Pax’s compositions have been performed from Seattle to Spain and many places in between, including Philadelphia and New York. Their compositions were heard in the Barrymore Award-winning “Contradict This! A Birthday Funeral for Heroes” with the Bearded Ladies Cabaret on Race Street Pier in Philly and La Mama in New York City. They graduated from Goshen College, having completed studies in music education, composition and theatre. While at Goshen College, they studied composition with celebrated composers Lee Dengler and Jorge Muñiz. Pax is the Director of Music at Tabernacle United Church, a progressive Christian community at 37th and Chestnut in West Philadelphia. They also maintain a private vocal lesson studio for adults and children in a variety of musical styles. In addition to working in choral and sacred music, Pax is a recording artist and singer-songwriter. In 2014, they released an album entitled Stand By Me: Hymns of Hope & Healing. In 2017 collaborations with PAM and murder.love, Pax released an EP of queer love songs entitled In the Eyes which inspired to the full-length album Change.

Recently posted there are Brooks Gingerich’s TTBB arr. of J. Randall Zercher’s hymn “I bind my heart this tide” and an original piece, “O come, let us sing to the Lord,” that I wrote when I was your age and on the faculty at EMC(U).
